Der Record Store Day litt dieses Jahr – wie so ziemlich ALLES – unter Corona und fand nicht, wie sonst jedes Jahr, im April statt, sondern wurde in drei verschiedene Ausgaben aufgeteilt. Diese fanden bislang im August und September statt; ein Date steht am 24. Oktober noch aus.

Kurze Zeit später, genauer gesagt am 27. November 2020 folgt dann auch die Black Friday Edition des Tags der unabhängigen Plattenläden. Seit einigen Jahren findet am Black Friday eine Sonderausgabe des RSD statt, bei dem viele besondere Releases verschiedenster Künstler auf dem Plan stehen.

Der Record Store Day als internationaler Tag unabhängiger Plattenläden wird seit 2008 zelebriert; bei uns in Deutschland wird der Tag dagegen erst seit 2012 gefeiert.

In den USA findet zusätzlich zum im April stattfindendenen RSD (sofern nicht gerade Corona-Ausnahmezustand herrscht) seit einigen Jahren auch noch die Black Friday-Ausgabe statt.
