Mushroomhead über Slipknot-Beef: „Wir haben viel Zeit damit verschwendet, uns wegen nichts über sie zu beschweren“

Wenn man sich Mushroomhead und Slipknot genauer anschaut, findet man doch die ein oder andere Ähnlichkeit. Unter anderem treten beide Bands seit jeher nur mit Masken in Erscheinung.

So ist es auch nicht weiter verwunderlich, dass sich zum Teil der ein oder andere Konkurrenzgedanke gebildet hat.

Insbesondere Ende der 1990er/Anfang der 2000er, als Slipknot durchstarteten und schnell zu Erfolg kamen, gönnten einige Fans der Pilzköpfe Corey und Co. den Erfolg nicht.

Bei einer Show in Cleveland, Ohio, der Heimatstadt von Mushroomhead, kam es bei einem Auftritt von Slipknot anno 1999 sogar zu einer handfesten Auseinandersetzung.

Rückblickend betrachtet findet Schlagzeuger Steve “Skinny” Felton die Rivalität zwischen seiner Band und Slipknot übertrieben.

Man habe viel Zeit damit verschwendet, sich über die Konkurrenzband zu beschweren, doch es hätte niemanden weitergebracht. Im ‘Talk Toomey Podcast‘ sagt er, habe er von den Ausschreitungen bei der Show damals nicht mal etwas mitbekommen.

„No, I heard all about it in the following days, but you know, that’s way before the internet and Facebook’s and things of that nature. So over the course of the next week or whatever I found out, like as far as what was going on, or at least I had heard of what was going on. Then I heard like 20 different stories throughout the years… Now it’s just like the legend of Bigfoot. Right?

I guess it happened and does it fucking matter? I mean, at that point, it’s just like a silly fan-fueled and I guess media hype, you know thing to talk about… This is the 90s. Yeah, you know, any sort of news was cool. There wasn’t a whole lot back then. And then you get a feud between bands. It’s kind of East Coast v West Coast type of thing. Oh, Lord, here we go.

And for some of the entertainment value of it, sure. A lot of us in the band were at the time into it. And, you know, played, played it up and had some fun, but, you know, I look back and I think I should have did it all when I knew it all, you know, I mean, right? Oh, yeah. Like how silly of us… Obviously we didn’t have any part of it and jump on the bandwagon of talking to the media about it and going oh we came first, the chicken or the egg and that whole stupid thing.

We spent a lot of time complaining about them for nothing. So you know God Bless them they’re one a biggest bands out there. It proves that masked heavy metal and that style of entertainment is still relevant.“

Späte Einsicht ist besser als keine. Schön, dass man sich mittlerweile gegenseitig den Erfolg könnt.

Kommende Woche Freitag bringen Mushroomhead ihr neues Album „A Wonderful Life“ auf den Markt. Die Platte markiert den nunmehr achten Longplayer der maskierten Kombo.
