AC/DC: Frontmann Brian Johnson über seinen Hörsturz und die Rückkehr zur Band

AC/DC sind seit Mittwochmorgen hochoffiziell zurück. Nicht nur, dass die Australier ihren neuen Song „Shot In The Dark“ und damit die erste neue Musik seit sechs Jahren veröffentlichten; auch das neue Album „Power Up“ steht in den Startlöchern.

Die Platte stellt die offizielle Rückkehr von Sänger Brian Johnson dar, der sich 2016 wegen gesundheitlicher Probleme zurückzog. Er hatte Probleme mit seinem Gehör und tat alles dafür, wieder musikalisch durchstarten zu können.

In einem neuen Interview mit dem Rolling Stone, wie er dank der Hilfe von Asius Technologies und deren Produkt Active ADEL, das sich noch in der frühen Phase der Entwicklung befand, als Brian Johnson sich dem Versuch annahm, sich nun vier Jahre später endlich wieder der Musik widmen kann.

„The first time he [Stephen Ambrose, founder of Asius] came down he brought this thing that looked like a car battery. I went, ‘What in the hell is that?’ He said, ‘We’re going to miniaturize it.’ It took two and a half years. He came down once a month.

We’d sit there and it was boring as shit with all these wires and computer screens and noises. But it was well worth it. The only thing I can tell you is that it uses the bone structure in the skull as a receiver. That’s as much as I can tell you.“

Johnson erzählt weiterhin, wie er sich nach dem Hörsturz und der Perspektive, nie wieder normal hören zu können, fühlte.

„It was pretty serious. I couldn’t hear the tone of the guitars at all. It was a horrible kind of deafness. I was literally getting by on muscle memory and mouth shapes. I was starting to really feel bad about the performances in front of the boys, in front of the audience.

It was crippling. There’s nothing worse than standing there and not being sure… The docs said, ‘Deaf is deaf, son.’ Cliff and Angus didn’t want to be responsible for me damaging my ears any further. … Shit happens. At least it wasn’t terminal.“

Wir freuen uns, dass es dem AC/DC-Frontmann wieder besser geht und uns ab sofort auch wieder gemeinsam mit seiner Band mit neuer Musik beehrt.

„Power Up“ erscheint am 13. November 2020 und stellt das 17. Studioalbum der Kombo aus Down Under dar. Zuletzt brachten sie 2014 ihre LP „Rock Or Bust“ auf den Markt.
