Korn: Brian Welch ist mittlerweile stolz auf den Nu Metal-Stempel

Die Veröffentlichung des neuen Korn-Albums „Requiem“ steht kurz bevor. Die Platte erblickt im Februar das Licht der Welt. Grund genug, einmal die Karriere nochmal Revue passieren zu lassen, findet Brian „Head“ Welch.

Wie der Gitarrist in einem neuen Interview mit dem Metal Hammer wissen ließ, ist er sehr stolz darauf, dass die Band den Begriff Nu Metal mit der Veröffentlichung ihres Selftitled-Albums anno 1994 geprägt hat.

Korn fühlen sich geehrt, den Begriff Nu Metal geprägt zu haben

Vielmehr noch: Dass sie als Urheber gelten und als „Szene-Älteste“ des heute noch (oder wieder?) beliebten Genres gelten, sei eine Ehre – und das, obwohl sie den Stempel dato nie aufgedrückt bekommen wollten.

„We’re proud to be seen as scene elders. It’s funny, every band that would be associated with nu metal never liked that title, because we never gave that tag to ourselves, it was whoever made it up, you know? When you’re in a band, you want to call the shots, you want to be In charge of your branding, and it was someone else who branded us that. And so we were like, No, that’s not cool. So we didn’t like it.

But nu metal, love it or hate it, and Korn, has stood the test of time. And we’re very grateful that we can be looked at as the originators, and that we started something that still reverberates all these decades later, and people are still liking it.“

Gerade auf Live-Shows fiele ihm immer wieder auf, welchen Meilenstein sie damals und im Laufe ihrer schon fast 30 Jahre andauernden Karriere nun kreiert hätten.

„And, you know, the nu metal era was a fun time. I’ll tell you what, you know, these type of shows, there were no boring shows. People can say all they want about nu metal, or whatever, but you come to a Korn show, you’re going to see energy, you’re going to see a party, and it’s going to be a fun time. Even as we’re getting older, it’s still just a rush, every show. We love our fans, we love the energy, and we’re grateful for what we created.“

Die Pläne für 2022

Das bevorstehende neue Album „Requiem“ stellt den bereits 14. Longplayer von Korn da. Die Scheibe erblickt am 04. Februar 2022 das Licht der Welt. Bisher durften wir uns schon über die Singles „Start The Healing“ und „Forgotten“ freuen. Alle Infos zur Platte gibt’s indes hier.

Dieses Jahr steht die Band um Frontmann Jonathan Davis hierzulande unter anderem bei Rock am Ring und Rock im Park auf der Bühne. Weiterhin spielen sie ein exklusives Headliner-Konzert in Berlin.
