David Draiman: DISTURBED sind nicht mehr definierbar

Obwohl wir uns sicher sind, dass einige von euch ihm da widersprechen würden, lassen wir das Ganze einfach mal im O-Ton so wirken, wie es gesagt wurde. Laut DISTURBED-Frontmann David Draiman habe die Band einen Punkt in ihrer Karriere erreicht, in dem sie nicht mehr klar definiert werden könne.

Er nimmt dabei Bezug auf den umwerfenden Erfolg des „The Sound of Silence“-Covers, mit dem DISTURBED nicht nur einen riesigen Sprung in die Charts, sondern auch auf untypische Compilations wie zum Beispiel die Bravo Hits Vol. 95 (kein Scherz!) geschafft haben.

Gerade durch Songs wie diesen, der stilistisch so anders sei als das, was man sonst von DISTURBED erwarten würde, gäbe es keine Grenzen mehr.

Er betont zwar, dass die Band trotz des Erfolgs nicht auf Teufel komm raus eine „Balladen-Band“ werde, lässt aber durchblicken, dass sich in Sachen Kreativität alle Türen geöffnet hätten. Ähnlich ruhige Songs wie „The Sound of Silence“ bleiben künftig also scheinbar keine einmalige Sache:

“That’s the wonderful thing about where we’ve come to at this point in our career is that Disturbed almost can’t be defined anymore. Once you have a track like ‘The Sound Of Silence‘ come out, and for it to be so stylistically different from what people normally accept from you, or what they’re used to getting from you, I think that the limitations are gone.

Again, we typically are known for powerful, rhythmic, driving, melodic music. But you can achieve power in different ways and I think that we’ve kind of gotten to the point of our career where we don’t really have to worry about those stylistic limitations anymore. I mean, don’t get me wrong—it’s not like all of a sudden we’re gonna be an exclusive ballad band or anything like that, but I think that the doors are completely open as far as creativity is concerned.”
