Slipknot-Mastermind „Clown“ über fehlende Konzerte: „Ich muss performen, um zu überleben“

Unser Admin sorgt dafür, dass alles funktioniert. Manchmal funktioniert es nicht, dann ist zwar er schuld. Aber dann repariert er es und wir haben ihn alle wieder lieb.
Ebenso wie vermutlich so gut wie alle Bands und Musiker auf der Welt leiden auch Slipknot seit März letzten Jahres unter der Coronakrise und dem Live-Shutdown. Dass Künstler damit zu kämpfen haben, liegt allein aus finanziellen Gründen auf der Hand. Doch auch für die Seele ist das Veranstaltungsverbot alles andere als förderlich.

Wie Percussionist Shawn „Clown“ Crahan jetzt in einer neuen Folge seines „Electric Theater“ mit Beartooth-Frontmann Caleb Shomo verriet, habe ihn die Absage der Konzerte im Frühjahr sehr getroffen. Sein Kollege und Frontmann Corey Taylor habe ihm davon berichtet, da Clown sich abgewöhnt habe, Fernsehen zu schauen. Für ihn sei das Performen eine Kur, die er brauche, um zu überleben.

„I get angry when people take it away – not my livelihood, but my medication. I need to perform with the good people of our culture in order to survive; it’s what I need most. So when he’s like, ‘That’s not happening,’ I’m like, ‘What are you talking about? What in the hell…’ So we got into it a little bit, and he started informing me of all this stuff – he knew it, he had it all down. He’d been watching it. Me? I don’t watch TV. I’m out, man; I’m completely oblivious to anything around me, and that’s how I do what I do, that’s how I maintain who I am with my art.“
Nachdem auch sein Manager ihn darüber informiert habe, dass womöglich keine Tour und keine Shows stattfinden würden, habe ihn das schwer getroffen.
„I call the manager right away and he gets upset because he’s like, ‘I wasn’t gonna tell you anything because there’s no guarantees yet; nothing has been decided by the world, and I’m trying to get all the facts from the main players – meaning Live Nation who does our tours, and the people we work with.And sure enough, man, that was it. I was in Vegas for about four days, my wife started watching the news – she’s like, ‘We might wanna either rent a car or get on a plane because things are getting really weird.'“

Wann genau mit einer Rückkehr des Regelbetriebs zu rechnen ist, steht gänzlich in den Sternen. Slipknot haben für dieses Jahr einige Konzerte, Knotfests und Festival-Auftritte auf dem Plan. Hierzulande stehen sie – so Corona will – als Headliner auf dem Wacken Ope Air auf der Bühne. Die Daumen sind gedrückt – und das nicht nur für Clowns Seelenfrieden.
