Der Streaming-Anbieter Netflix will das Woodstock Festival von 1999 neu aufleben lassen – und zwar in Form einer Dokumentation. Wie das US-amerikanische Magazin Deadline berichtet, habe die Produktion bereits begonnen. In die Arbeiten involviert seien auch noch Raw und BBH Entertainment, auf die jeweils schon andere namhafte Dokus zurückgehen.

Unter anderem war Raw an der Produktion von „Don’t F**k with Cats: Die Jagd nach einem Internet‑Killer“ und „Fear City: New York vs. The Mafia“ beteiligt. BBH Entertaintment war derweil in die Depeche Mode-Doku „Spirits In The Forest“ involviert.
Klingt nach einem passenden Gespann, um auch das Woodstock-Festival von ’99 standesgemäß auf die Mattscheibe zu transferieren.

Das Festival von 1999 war dato die zweite Neuauflage des legendären Woodstocks von 1969. Nach der ersten Ausgabe 1994 fand das Remake fünf Jahre später in Rome, New York statt. Die Performances diverser Acts, wie u.a. Rage Against The Machine, Metallica oder Nine Inch Nails, wurden dato von Negativschlagzeilen überschattet.
In den Medien wurden diverse Fälle von Vandalismus, Feuer und sogar sexuellen Übergriffen während der Performances gezeigt. Auf der Suche nach einem „Schuldigen“ wurden Bands der härteren Gitarrenmusik genannt. So wurde oftmals die Show von Limp Bizkit als „Katalysator“ für die Vorfälle benutzt.
Vor einigen Jahren sagte Gitarrist Wes Borland in einem Interview dazu:
„I think that was a really bad idea, because Woodstock ’99 — I don’t feel responsible at all for that. I feel like the promoters of that festival were overcharging people for water, for instance, the cash machines were running out of money. The conditions were really poor, and I think that ‘Woodstock ’99‘ should have not invited bands like us on it unless they expected — no one said, ‘Tone it down, this audience is not going to react in a positive way to your show.’ I mean, who knew that the festival was gonna turn into that, that atrocious riot that it did? But it’s never happened again, which I think is a good idea. I think that if they were to do it now and have the music that’s popular now — Foxygen and Mumford & Sons and a bunch of bands that are more tepid, or just a little more ‘Coachella‘-friendly — I think it would probably work out great. There were a lot of really heavy bands on that festival.“
