Three Days Grace veröffentlichen Video ihres Charity-Projekts „Kenya Project“

Der 19. August markierte in diesem Jahr den Welttag der humanitären Hilfe, zu dessen Anlass Three Days Grace ein Video ihres eigenen Charity-Projekts veröffentlicht haben.

Das sogenannte „Kenya Project“ setzt sich für den Schutz kenianischer Kinder vor Gewalt ein und will ihre Trinkwasserversorgung sicherstellen. Ins Leben gerufen wurde das Projekt von World Vision Canada und der MTN of Hope-Initiative der Band.

Im Herbst vergangenen Jahres besuchten Sänger Matt Walst und Drummer Neil Sanderson zusammen mit World Vision Canada zwei Lebensgemeinschaften in der Nähe der Hauptstadt Nairobi. Im Zuge dessen riefen Three Days Grace das „Kenya Project“ ins Leben. Die Videoaufnahmen ihres Kenia-Besuchs stellte die Band nun zu Verfügung.

Sanderson kommentierte seine Erfahrungen in Kenia und erklärte, dass seine Band ihre Bekanntheit nutzen wolle, auf den Notstand in anderen Teilen der Welt aufmerksam zu machen. Nicht jeder bekäme die Möglichkeit, sein Leben zu leben, wie er es selbst möchte.

„We were inspired everywhere we went and by everyone we met because what we experienced isn’t what we thought it would be. I learned that poverty is not hopelessness. Hope is around every corner; sometimes you just have to look for it.

When you meet communities of families and children who mostly live off $2 a day, but greet you with the biggest smiles and are so full of hope and resilience, it makes you take stock of your life and how lucky we are to be born in Canada. We were given every resource and freedom to create opportunities at making a career as a band. Now we have an opportunity to use our career to build awareness and invite our fans from all over the world to join us at creating change to people that can use a hand up.“

Bei ihrer anschließenden Tour durch Kanda ließ die Band je einen Dollar pro verkauftem Ticket in ihre Organisation fließen.

Matt and I recently visited Mwatate and Taveta, two struggling communities in #Kenya. We saw a big difference being made by clean water projects, and how much work is still to be done. We hope to empower our fans, and everyone learning about these communities for the first time, to join us in helping these children.⠀ ⠀ The needs are many, but in particular, your support will help increase the protection of vulnerable children in these communities, especially those with disabilities or those who have been the victims of abuse.
