Metallica haben bei ihrem Charity-Konzert 1,3 Millionen US-Dollar gesammelt

Metallica waren dieses Jahr gezwungen, ihr alljährliches „Helping Hands Concert & Auction“ wegen der Coronavirus-Pandemie erstmals virtuell zu veranstalten. Das tat dem Sinn der Veranstaltung jedoch keinen Abbruch, denn die Band um Frontmann James Hetfield konnte trotz des etwas anderen Stattfindens eine ordentliche Summe Geld für den guten Zweck sammeln.

Insgesamt kamen sage und schreibe 1,3 Millionen US-Dollar für die bandeigene All Within My Hands Foundation zusammen. 100% der Einnahmen gingen an die Non-Profit-Organisation der Truppe, die sich für verschiedene wohltätige Zwecke einsetzt. Bei ihrer vergangenen Welttournee spendeten sie z.B. in jeder Stadt, in der sie Halt machten, für einen ausgewählten guten Zweck.

Die Band kommentierte den immensen Erfolg wie folgt:

„So many of you have already supported us by watching, donating, and participating in the online auction. Once again, your generosity and kindness have blown us away! Thanks to all of you and our generous sponsors, our first-ever pay-per-view event that streamed live a little over a week ago has raised over $1.3 million! Those funds will be used to work with our partners at Feeding America and the American Association of Community Colleges, along with supporting COVID-19 and disaster relief efforts in the coming months.

There are so many people to thank who made this event happen that we don’t know where to start! From the sponsors and those who donated auction items to the mighty Metallica crew who transformed HQ into one giant interactive party; to all of you who purchased tickets and contributed in any way you were able, and to the AWMH Executive Board and Board of Advisors, thank you! Oh, and let’s not forget the musicians who joined us for all the fun, Avi and Henry. This was truly an amazing effort and we hope that the work that All Within My Hands does continues to inspire you as much as it does us.“

Ihr könnt euch das gesamte Konzert übrigens bis 01. Dezember noch immer auf Abruf anschauen und dabei auch noch immer Geld spenden. Wenigstens ein Vorteil, den die Krise mit sich bringt. Folgt dazu diesem Verweis.

Für einen ersten Vorgeschmack könnt ihr euch die Performances von „Blackened“ als auch „Disposable Heroes“ hier anschauen. Metallica veröfentlichten die beiden Live-Clips für jedermann. Gespielt wurden die Tracks jeweils in alternativen Versionen.

Die Corona-Zeit nutze die Band übrigens auch, um an neuer Musik zu arbeiten. Sowohl remote als auch mittlerweile wieder gemeinsam in einem Raum feilten Hetfield und Co. schon an neuen Songs. Die Arbeiten daran gehen nach eigenen Angaben gut voran.

Wann genau wir damit rechnen dürfen, ist natürlich noch nicht bekannt. Die aktuelle Scheibe „Hardwired… To Self-Destruct“ erschien 2016.
