Erstes Black Metal-Album von Matt Heafy (Trivium) und Ihsahn ist fertig

Schon seit einigen Jahren schrauben Trivium-Frontmann Matt Heafy und Ihsahn immer mal wieder an einem gemeinsamen Black Metal-Projekt herum. Die Corona-Downtime kam dem Ganzen nun zugute, denn endlich konnten sie die Arbeiten daran konkret vorantreiben. Und das mit Erfolg.

Matt Heafy (Trivium) und Ihsahn haben ihr Black Metal-Album fertiggestellt

Wie Heafy dieser Tage bei „The Jasta Show“ von Hatebreed-Frontmann Jamey Jasta wissen ließ, haben sie ihr erstes Album fertiggestellt. Insgesamt haben die beiden sage und schreibe elf Jahre (!) daran gefeilt.

„During this (lockdown) I was able to finally finish my black metal record with Ihsahn from Emperor. He’s been producing and co-writing that with me for about 11 years, and it finally comes out in the middle of next year, which should be fun.“

Das gemeinsame Projekt hörte ursprünglich auf den Namen Mrityu, wurde jedoch umbenannt in Ibaraki – den Namen des Maskottchens von Trivium. Weiterhin lässt Heafy wissen, dass das Konzept des Albums an die japanische Kultur und Mythologie angelehnt, woher auch die ursprüngliche Namensidee kam.

Neben Heafy selbst und natürlich Ihsahn wird auch Adam „Nergal“ Darski (Behemoth, Me And That Man) auf der Scheibe zu hören sein.

So wird die Scheibe von Ibaraki klingen

„It used to be called Mrityu, which I got from Ashtanga yoga, it means the concept of life and death, same thing as the ouroboros, same thing as the Japanese Enso, the idea that life and death are always symbiotic with each other. I didn’t really know what to write about lyrically, and I was talking to Ihsahn because I’ve always loved Scandinavian mythology, Norse mythology, and Swedish mythology, I wish I could write about Thor and Jörmungandr, I love these stories.

There isn’t really a band that writes about Japanese folklore or the Shinto gods and goddesses and fictitious stories of Japanese history. So I changed the band name to Ibaraki, which is actually Trivium‘s mascot – an easter egg in there – and the entire project is Japanese-themed. The art, the lyrics, I’m actually singing in Japanese, Ishahn‘s on the record, Nergal‘s on the record.“

Mit Trivium bringt Matt Heafy nun erstmal das neue Album „In The Court Of The Dragon“ auf den Markt. Die Scheibe erscheint am 08. Oktober 2021 – alle Infos dazu findet ihr hier.

Ihsahn brachte vergangenes Jahr zwei EPs auf den Markt; das letzte Album „Ámr“ stammt von 2018.
